The Importance of Human Connection
I had an experience yesterday that forced my commitment to no voice mail ever at Beit T’shuvah. The importance of connecting with a human when you are in trouble is lifesaving. “Your call is important to us, please hold, we are experiencing an increased volume of calls” only elevates your desperation.
Sweet Pea, my dear dog, developed a virulent case of diarrhea. All the vets in Los Angeles are not taking new patients, no matter who you know. Mark was out of town. Shit everywhere, she couldn’t even make it to the elevator. What should I do? Get in line at the emergency ? Jump off my balcony?
The only thing I could think of was to call my vet in Palm Desert, dear Dr. Conor. He returned my call immediately, offered to call my pharmacy for metronidazole and talked me off the ledge. Sweet Pea Borovitz is recovering and I have returned to sanity. Thank you Dr.Conor and all kind, responsive human beings. I am deeply grateful and renew my commitment to always respond.
